Heartlight, acrylic, 30” x 40”, $2400
Carol Matsuyama is an award-winning artist based in Port Perry, Ontario, Canada, specializing in realistic acrylic still life paintings. With a distinguished academic background, Carol earned her BFA degree, summa cum laude, in New York before embarking on a successful career spanning over twenty years as a children’s educational book designer.
Today, Carol’s artistic practice centres on capturing the beauty of everyday objects through her meticulous work. Her attention to detail and ability to bring a sense of realism and presence to her subjects set her work apart in this genre. Testing boundaries, and moving away from traditional still life, Carol’s work has a modern aesthetic and a unique visual voice.
Carol loves the Still Life genre because it gives her complete control over what and how she paints. Much of her creativity happens before she ever puts brush to canvas. It is her choice of objects, of saturated colours, of lighting, and how she arranges them, that makes her art distinctly her own. The result is
a true reflection of Carol and her personality
as an artist. She loves to paint on large canvases, which she feels have more impact.
